A new patent from Switzerland revolutionizes frame building: ISA enables frame length adjustments Thanks to ISA, the length of a bicycle can exactly be adjusted to its owner. Ergonomics and riding dynamics of the bicycle can be adjusted with the help of the patented ISA head tube. This world innovation will appear in public for the first time at this year’s Eurobike. The ISA (Integrated Size Adjustment) idea is equally simple and effective: The position of the fork can be moved forward or backward up to 1.5 cm in the lengthways oval head tube. This is possible by means of aluminium plates with eccentric steerer holes. The frame length can be adjusted by a mere 180° turn of the plates. Additional plates, which allow steps of adjustment of 2.5 mm, are available for even more exact adjustments of the frame length. Tuning of riding dynamics improves comfort and safety For Andy Muff, the developer of ISA, the biggest advantage of the system is the possibility of adjusting the frame length perfectly to the cyclist: “In contrast with changing the stem, the rider’s centre of gravity remains balanced between saddle and head tube.” Since the adjustment with ISA also alters the wheel base, the riding dynamics can be geared to the wishes of the cyclist. “Even a difference of a few millimetres can cause noticeable changes”, says the 48 years old Swiss bicycle developer. Large cyclists find additional profit in ISA because the length adjustment also reduces toe overlap between pedals and front wheel. As a result, the danger of touching the wheel with one’s feet and causing an accident is reduced. ISA offers bicycle manufactures the possibility of always making the right bike available for their customers while having only a few frame sizes on stock. Advantages without restrictions Road bikers can profit just as much from the advantages of ISA as mountain bikers, touring bikers and everyday cyclists. Even kids bikes can quickly be adjusted to their growing riders thanks to ISA. Except for the ISA head tube and the head tube plates, ISA does not require any special parts. For Andy Muff, it was important that standard integrated headsets, stems and forks are suitable for the system. Premiere at Eurobike ISA will appear in public for the first time at this year’s Eurobike. There, developer Andy Muff will also have talks with bicycle manufacturers. “As from the model year 2010, the first licensees will use ISA“, he predicts. Next year, ISA will already be used on the bicycles of Muff’s own brand C2 Concept Cycle”. 2’438 letters About the ISA headtube system: ISA was invented by the Swiss Andy Muff and patented internationally. Bicycle manufacturers can use the system as licensees. You can obtain more information about ISA on www.isa-system.ch. About the inventor Andy Muff: The former elite racing cyclist already built his first frame by hand when he was only 21. After the end of his career in cycling, Muff remained true to the bicycle and worked as an importer, developer and consultant for various bicycle manufacturers and accessory producers in Europe and Asia. Since 2006, Andy Muff has been developing the sporty-ergonomic road bikes and mountainbikes of his own brand «C2 Concept Cycle» – www.conceptcycle.ch Contact ISA – Integrated Size Adjustment T: +41 44 401 09 09 c/o Andy Muff GmbH F: +41 44 401 19 19 Scheuchzerstrasse 143 CH-8006 Zurich contact@isa-system.ch Switzerland www.isa-system.ch Please send us a voucher copy or the link if you report on ISA.
